Động từ là những từ chỉ hành động của người hay vật trong câu. Động từ đứng sau chủ ngữ.<br />
Động từ được chia thành nhiều loại, trong đó có hai loại chính là động từ thường, là các động từ như <strong><em>go, study, eat, wear, sleep,…</em></strong><br />
Và động từ trạng thái như: <strong><em>động từ “to be” (is, are, am, was, were…), smell, know, taste,…</em></strong><br />

Tân ngữ là những từ chỉ người hay vật, thường đứng sau động từ trong câu, là đối tượng chịu tác động. Tân ngữ trả lời cho câu hỏi “ai?” hoặc “cái gì?”.<br />

 Như vậy, để viết một câu, hai thành phần không thể thiếu trong câu đó là chủ ngữ và động từ.<br />
Tuy nhiên, đối với câu mệnh lệnh, chúng ta lược bỏ chủ ngữ vì chúng ta luôn mặc định người thực hiện hành động là “you”.<br />
